WHY THE CHEAPEST QUOTE IS RARELY THE SAFEST CHOICE
You send your project brief to five developers.
The quotes come back:
• KSh 15,000
• KSh 25,000
• KSh 40,000
• KSh 60,000
• KSh 80,000
The temptation is obvious.
Pick the lowest price.
Protect your money.
But here is what the lowest quote is usually really telling you:
1️⃣ Someone is cutting corners on quality
A proper website involves:
✔ Design
✔ Development
✔ Testing
✔ Revisions
✔ Mobile optimisation
✔ Speed optimisation
✔ Security setup
If the price is extremely low, some of these steps are being skipped.
You just do not know which ones yet.
And you only discover it later when:
❌ Something breaks
❌ Customers complain
❌ The site behaves unpredictably
2️⃣ Someone is cutting corners on hosting
Low-cost developers often choose the cheapest hosting to protect their margin.
Cheap hosting leads to:
❌ Slow websites
❌ Frequent downtime
❌ Weak security
Your website can go offline without warning — and you only find out when customers start complaining.
3️⃣ No real support after launch
The project ends once the site is “delivered.”
But real business needs continue:
• Updates
• Fixes
• Improvements
• Maintenance
With very cheap deals, the developer is often:
❌ Unavailable later
❌ Slow to respond
❌ Charging again like a new project
The “cheap” option becomes a long-term frustration.
4️⃣ You may not fully own your website
Some low-cost setups are built on:
• Developer-owned accounts
• Shared platforms
• Restricted access systems
This means you may not fully control your website.
In worst cases, the site can be:
❌ Taken down
❌ Locked
❌ Held hostage
This happens more often than most business owners realize.
5️⃣ The real cost shows up later
The cheapest option is rarely the final cost.
Because later you may need to:
• Rebuild the website
• Recover lost customers
• Fix security issues
• Repair broken systems
And all of that costs more than doing it right the first time.
Here is the truth:
Affordable is not the same as cheap.
✔ Affordable = fair price for proper work
❌ Cheap = low price with hidden compromises
So the real question is not:
“What is the lowest quote?”
The real question is:
Who will deliver the most value and reliability for what I am investing?
